To me this is a fascinating treasure. Hopefully someday someone will find a way to reach it. I keep waiting for something new but year after year nothing. A great story nontheless.  Grin

Yes, indeed. The tale is almost as good as the finding! For the life or me, I can't figure out why someone would bury treasure even they couldn't recover. When they finally get to the treasure, something tells me there's going to be a mocking note there of some kind and every indication of a practical joke that has lasted a century or more.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I figure the actual treasure is lying under a rock in plain sight and all the elaborate earthwork is a wild goose chase  Grin

Hello All

The Oak Island Money Pit is an interesting story.

However no one really knows the rules of game?

We do not really know who designed this complicated engineering work?

The site has almost been lost and contaminated by previous treasure hunters and there has been many mind boggling array of claims and counter claims about the site, which make it hard to know what is true that is not.

A real enigmatic alleged treasure story to torture us?

Hardluck  Huh?

The ultimate in irony. At least the goose will be a nice roast dinner.

I have been reading about this supposed treasure since ever i was a very little boy, it has for some reason been the most interesting (to me anyway) story of lost treasure i have ever heard. i have always wanted to go visit the island and maybe even give a go at getting the treasure myself, i have for years tried come up with ideas about how to get at the treasure (some maybe abstract and some maybe downright fanatical) but have always thought of it. thanks to you all for this thread ,  it has rekindled some of the dream and intrigue i have

I believe the biggest drawback to attempting to retrieve it has been private ownership of the island. Maybe someday we will find out what was worth all that effort.

I have been thinking about the whole accessability issue of the original owner, placing a treasure where it was irretrievable. Its a very valid point, and one Ive wondered about before. At face value its just to far to go to bury a treasure unless the cavern or vault was already there.

Since it appears there are tunnels all over the island I am thinking there must be an alternate point of entry. Perhaps large enough to retrieve small quantities but not extract the whole vault in one shot. Or perhaps it was too time consuming to use that entry so they tunneled into the cavern from above to place the cache. Perhaps its a submerged cave that connects to the vault?

Fun to think about the possibilities  Grin What better thing to do on a cold winter day?

Hello all

Perhaps it is time for a little brain storming about the Oak Island Mystery

The earliest newspaper report about Oak Island I have found is 1899. the treasure hunt has already been going for about 104 years before that. I am interested in the earlier reports as they may have more relevant details about the story. Maybe some one out there would like to share with us earlier reports on the story???  Huh?

However the San Antonio Express date 30th of June 1899 claims that 25ft down the shaft in November 1837 a scrap of parchment was found with the letters  V. R     Huh?? The size of parchment was 1/8 of an Inch in length by 5/16 in length. It does not say if the material is cloth or paper.

I t would be interesting read peoples ideas of identity of the initials or to perhaps what they mean? Speculation of course but fun to see what people come up with.

Any takers anyone???

Hardluck  Wink
