Hi Alan
Very good reading and interesting topic    Makes my point about treasure finders can't always expect a fair deal , especialy when it comes to government departments .
The treasure  finder is at their mercy and hopefully get a honest official.   In the UK you only have 14 days to declare your find which does'nt give you anytime to have a private value-ation of your find .  I suppose if it were me , in that situation I would get as much coverage as possible with everybody  but government and consult a solicitor before I declared my find

Hi Backa
The British law states if a treasure is of some interest to the museum you have NO option to sell to anyone else but them ,  at the price they offer

Hi Golddigger

If you were an appriarser and depended on government commisions for your income would you want to screw your bread and butter job with the government by giving valueations at the highest end of the scale if one of their departments have to fork out the money to buy it ?     Noooooo not likely

Hello Allen

Thanks anyway. I am not sure the Alex Robinson I knew was the son of Allan Robinson.

The Alex Robinson I knew was  a strait talking no nonsense of man, hard drinking and working, down to earth man you could meet. He was always a pleasure to work with. He was an ex navy man who helped create establish the naval patrol boat force for PNG.

He was at one time my bosses in days when I lived out of a suitcase from one broken down third world countries to the next. He mentioned once some thing about his father who was a navy diver being ripped off by the government. I never knew the full story as it always gave him much bitterness.

Your story about Allan Robinson sparked some thing in my Swiss cheese memory that Alex might of been Allan's son.

Anyway Thanks for the story

Hardluck  Huh?

Hi Hardluck, if I were you i would make attempts to find and contact Alex he might be able to elaborate more Alan did write a book called in australia treasure is not for the finder.  Its out of print now but you might find a copy at a boot sale or some old book shop.
Alan tells how he was ripped off not only by the government but also by members of the media too.
He was also stitched up with some cock and bull stories in order to get him out of the way.  Even in Australia there are corrupt people in high places who are able to negotiate and lower themselves deep enough to crawl under a pregnant fleas guts in order to achieve what the want.  No one knows if Alan Robinson took his own life while he was in Jail of if he was silenced?  But i bet there is someone out there that knows the truth  Shocked  TREASURE IS NOT FOR THE FINDERS legal thieves are looking at ways of taking it from you  Shhhhhh did I say that hehehehe
