Hey BA
Thanks for the urls. One on the south Penn railroad I found interesting as I lived in SW PA and used to detect a railroad bed that was built in the late 1800s but the coal companies never got around to any building bridges or laying any rail!!! Never found much either...

Yeah, I don't go camping down in that region unless I'm with a large group. Too bad, it used to be a nice area, or at least the New Mexico bootheel and the area around Columbus did.

Still, if I can get enough people from my club interested in going, it might be worth the trip.

Thanks BA. I knew about an old railroad that was here, but never thought much about it until I read your post. They tore it out in 1938. We figured out where a spur ran off it, then went to detecting around the spur. We found old nails, ox shoes, horse shoes, some old mill balls, and about a ton of wire. Nothing of great interest but fun all the same. Your lead helped me have a great day of detecting thanks.

Glad you got an enjoyable day's hunt out of it.....you never can tell what you'll find when you search where others don't. Sounds like typical finds for a short spur, but then again anyplace people are bending and stretching and doing the kind of work associated with railroading you've got the possibility of lost coins, key fobs, buttons, etc.
