Sounds like you put in the time on this one foolsgold. More than one story I have looked into has turned out to be just a story, or a combination of stories. Usually the most exciting ones have...issues Wink

Thanks for sharing your experiences   Smiley

Sometimes I think the research is as much fun as the hunting.....especially when you look at the hunt as proof of the accuracy of your research.   It's a bummer when you start finding holes in the story, but each time you do, it drives home the importance of good research.   Besides, I'm sure that in the process of researching this one story you found a few dozen leads to work that could lead you to unpublished caches.

nice story seldom.
I've heard another one similar.
What do you know a few towns should have similar stories.

You would probably have to search the microfilm of the newspaper archives at the town it happened at. That is if that same newspaper is still around. It just might be some of the history that was passed down from generation to generation. *shrug*
As for the treasure sight there is one thing to do search the area of the escape route but that may take months if not years. Depending if you have a job or not.

The challenges of cache hunting are many, but the rewards can be great----and even the preliminary research can be exciting.

i hear ya, understand that totally...the issue that i have with this story is that the original author, Frank E. Palmore, is directly related to the 'arresting officer'...i know that names can get a little twisted, and how the 'from the mouth' stories can go
that is why, even though the authors name is palmore, and his family name should be the same, i researched many variations of it, palmer, lewis, franklin, frank, louis, etc...
in my mind, a story this young shouldnt have that many loose ends in it, but you never know!

i just couldnt find enough evidence to warrant a trip to bowie, yet!, even though its just an hour or so away, or even get the microfilm on loan to a closer local library.

that is a step i may take, but this one has dropped way low on my priority list, due to aforementioned reasons(in previous posts as well)

either way, its a great story, and i would much rather spend my time researching a story that may or may not be false than to be sitting mindlessly in front of the tv, at least this way i get to think!
