Go Up Go Down

Here is a very little know treasure that could could be of great valve to the finder and to history.
In her book Irene Taylor Allen, Saga of Anderson-The Proud Story of a Historic Texas Community tells about a Civil War Armory operating in Anderson Grimes county Texas. The only story ever printed about this treasure was a article I published in World of Treasure in 1982. So few people know about it.
The armory was owned by a Mr. Mann after the war he moved some small arms and a brass cannon to his sister in laws house for storage. As often happens Mr Mann went off to north Texas and got his self killed. His sister in law having several small children wanted the guns out of her house. She hired a freed slave to load them up and haul them off. End of story beginning of a treasure tail. After some research I found the armory site but never could find a name for his sister in law or the property she lived on. I spend a lot of time in the area in 1978 and 79 made a small recovery from another lead from her book plus made several friends and found lots of cool artifacts.
The book is hard to find I lost my copy years ago but if you can get your hands on a copy and a little research you might find a wagon load of guns.
Leads from her book has lead to one treasure recovery I know for a fact, plus leads to several others.

Good Luck

Not only is it hard to find, it has a very dear price tag on it.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I read a story somewhere on the net about two guys looking for this. It also had a picture of them wrestling a cannon out of a muddy bayou, but it turned out not to be brass. I will hunt around again and see if I can post a link to the story.

Grimes county is a long way from any bayou. But there are several creeks around. My theory was they were dumped in a creek bed and covered up

Sorry I put the bayou in there out of habit. I guess I should correct that to what appeared to be a narrow (10-15ft wide) muddy ditch. I can't find the article now, but I will put it on my list of "to dos". I don't remember it giving any more info than is here. But then again my memory has failed me before and maybe I am mixing two different stories together. As I type I am thinking I should have found the article before post here.

OK! I give up. I have spent about 5 hours looking for whatever it was I read. Please ignore my above posts.
