The land is now part of the Fort Mojave Indian Reservation. Odds are there would be a map of the Fort some where in old records. Narrowing down the location of the commissary building would save a great deal of time and searching.

Anyone interested in this treasure better get to getting!
I just looked at the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe

and read the following: Today ruins of the fort and old boarding school, which was built sometime later, are visible. They have not been restored because a new town for 40,000 residents is planned for the site.  All council members and the tribes phone number are on their website.

Hello Saoirse

I hope they are kind enough to let people search for the treasure before they bulldoze the area.

Kind of a shame to let a little bit of history slip away so easily.

Hardluck.  Huh?

Wish that I knew of this a few years back. Its still there and you can walk up the creek bed and see where they got their water. Some of the old foundations are still visible in the brush. Real snakey in the summer. Bout the only thing around there now are the wild burros. I didn't have a detector back then and we were chasing cattle up. Did a walk about looking for any visible old anything. Guess there have been a lot of people there ahead of us tho as we found nothing. Stupid place to build a fort tho. Down in a draw and the indians could be above them and shoot down on them. Understand that it was manned by buffalo soldiers. There is a concrete area made from area rock. Might have been the head honchos place.

If saoirse is correct in his post that the old Mojave fort is located on an Indian reservation that unless you're a member of the tribe I don't think you have much success in getting permission to search the area from the tribal Council.

extremely remote, and unless you're making a lot of fuss, nobody would even know you are there. A lot of Quad and 4 wheel activity around there. Continue up the draw and at the top make a right turn and you will enter Oatman from the north. We used to run cattle there. The Colorado Indians up and down the river really don't want any digging on their grounds. Example is the gold mines west of Quartzsite. The current owners can mine, but not transfer or sell the claims. Understand that when they pass away, the claim reverts to the Indians who have no plans to work them. There are already some really good mines that are theirs. You sure don't want to get caught mining or detecting in that area. AND, yes the reservation police patrol the mining area haphasardly.
