Go Up Go Down

I spent years beach combing Point Reyes to Bodega Bay and after every storm I was able to find bees wax washed up on shore.  I always thought these came from the Manila Galleons that sailed down the coast to Mexico every year.  The only ship I went looking for was at Point Reyes National Seashore.  It was the Golden Hind loaded to the brim with Spanish Gold, Silver and Emeralds.  The story goes that it was careened there in a small bay on the sandy beach where the barnacles were taken off the bottom and the leaky seams repaired.  While this was going on the Captain buried some loot near by as his ship if it hit a storm might have sunk it was so low in the water by all the weight of the Treasure.  The US Government got wind of this possible treasure and made the whole bloomin place into a National Park.  Now no metal detecting is allowed and if they catch you "they" will confiscate all your gear, metal detector and even your car parked in the parking lot.  Plus you will go to Federal Prison.  If they could I think they might get your first born too.  So forget I even mentioned it, don't go thar lookin fer treasure or they'll gets ya and thats fer shor.

There are a lot of theories as to the origin of the wax, some say it was made by Chinese to sell to the Spanish. No one has ever proven where it came from for sure but it has been around a very long time.

Sir Francis Drake was the captain of the Golden Hind and like wise no one has ever proven where he stopped along the coast. Some say as far south as San Francisco Bay and some as far north as British Columbia. Drake did do some land surveys while they were ashore according to his letters. I believe these marked stones perhaps originated from that survey as opposed to true treasure markers. Thats just my personal opinion though.

Drake probably did cache some treasure somewhere since he wound up with more than they could carry back by the stories. Just where along the coastline would be the question.

Hey guys I was wondering if the wax can still be found along the beaches down there?  I was thinking it might be fun to go see if I could find some and we are always looking for more excuses to head to the Oregon coast.

I'd think squeeky cheese, the Tillamook Air Museum, and dungeness crab would be reason enough  Wink

The squeeky cheese makes me go broke every time I go down there everyone I know wants me to bring back a pack for them.  I use to go there all the time with my family, same with the air museum.

Sadly last time I was down there I was on a tight schedule and could not stay and do my normal wandering.

I never found any of the wax on my trips but then I didn't spend all my time looking just in Nehalem Bay. I would imagine the best time to look for that would be after a storm. The best time for squeaky cheese is anytime! Smiley

Also there are kites! Flying those guidable delta kites is a blast. Just don't get one so big it becomes a parasail, seen that happen once  Shocked
