Thanks for the info guys, I found a few old Spanish petroglyps when I was in Arizona and and found out it was a actual map, I followed it and found two buried turquoise mines. I didn't dig them but one day I want to go back and check them out better.

Another way to find a bunch of leads quickly is to just talk to people and tell them what you are looking for. Most people have one or two treasure stories tucked away in their heads.

Great tip. I'll make an effort to be more vocal about my interest in treasure hunting.

hazzard, you can start by going to your local library or your favorite used book seller and look for any of the volumes in the Texas Forgotten Ports series by Keith Guthrie

Go Up Go Down

In the late 1970s an old timer came to look at a car I selling. He told me he was going to use it to go prospecting in. Wise
He then said when he was a "young kid" he worked for a rancher digging post holes and he kept coming up with shovel loads of "small black balls of dirt that when you squished them between your fingers would turn gold" , but he didn't think anything of it because it wasn't what he expected gold to look like. Excellent tips. The nice thing with the internet becoming more widely used is that you can actually find old newspaper sites, where the old 1800 newspapers have been scanned and uploaded, so you dont even need to go to the local county office to get some good info.
