need advice

Okay...soooo....I need some advice. I found something very interesting (I think) in Death Valley but...it took me two years to get my non-interested in treasure hunting husband, to take me down to east Texas to look for John Fletchers buried treasure. I doubt that I will ever be able to get him to take me to Death Valley. Plus the location looks like its pretty hard to get to and even though I have a jeep, Im not sure you could even get to it with a jeep. Any suggestions on how I should proceed? I wonder if the Hoffman crew has ever considered looking for gold in the desert instead of Alaska....

Posted on: March 19, 2015, 01:14:02 amThe reason I started looking around Death Valley was because of some treasure legends I read when I lived in California and a story my Mother told me about my great grandfather. He looked for and found a mine that some guy told him about on his death bed. He almost died accidently while there mining and was never well enough to go back.

Thank you, Xavier...you're right, I should just go myself. I guess I worry about what could happen if I get in a situation I cant get out of by myself. I'm not that young or fit anymore. But there's something there or I wouldnt even consider it.

Here is how I do my preliminary surveying, first I use Google earth and if the place is near or in a town I use Google map. I memorize the place as best as I can and take reference points for land navigation I also use my tablet as it has the GPS on it. I normally first go to look at the place just to see if it's accessible, by that I mean vegetation or is it fenced in with no access. Once I have all the data that I need I plan my day out to the area. My conditions are not the same as yours here in Europe but I think that you could proceed in a similar way.

Before you get too carried away, I should point out that IF your target is inside Death Valley National Park (and it most likely is) and you get caught, you will be in VERY serious trouble unless you successfully jump through a whole bunch of bureaucratic hoops beforehand.....and those hoops are there for the express purpose of preventing the type of thing you are proposing.  You are not allowed to view links.

It's a National Park, NOT a National Forest or BLM land.  As a general rule metal detecting, prospecting, etc, are forbidden in National Parks.....Apparently the powers that be are willing to make some exceptions in Death Valley, which is why I posted the link to the Death Valley National Park regulations.
