Go Up Go Down

In 1978 i was introduced to a very old italian man working in a pastry shop in Congers N.Y. He told me that when he was a child while playing in the woods behind his familys home on South Pascack Road in Nanuet N.Y. he and his brothers uncoverd a wooden keg that was filled with large cents that they proceded to throw around the woods as if they were frisbees. It was not untill many years later that i read an article on the internet about how the New Jersey copper large cents were minted in N.J. PACKED INTO WOODEN KEGS AND SHIPPED BY WAGON  along almost that same route to West Point for storage.I never was able to figure out which house was the old mans but i am sure those pennies are still out there. There have been alot of new developments put up over the past 30 years.GOOD HUNTING. Detecting

Good story - maybe you can check some old plat maps or early phone directories from the library and get a handle on where the old man lived. Best of luck! Sue
