Go Up Go Down

I know this is an old topic but I'm new to this site. Laurel Caverns at 1 time was known as Delaney"s cave & it is known that the local Indians spent the winters deep inside them. My ancestors have been in this mountain area (sw Pa.,w Md. &
W.V.) since the mid 1700's and I've heard the stories for years. The National Pike
(rt. 40) is there, as is Braddock's Grave, Fort Necessity & a few old tollhouses.
My user-name is the old name of the dirt road directly behind the caverns, over looking a deep mountain valley. Pretty area.

Go Up Go Down

I have been in the caverns 3 or 4 times, but only on a guided tour. My first trip in was approx. 1970 & the caverns were already charging a fee to enter. They do allow spelunkers to go through areas not open to the general public, but there is also a charge along with plenty of rules. One interesting point is that there is an old Indian skeleton that can be seen on the tour. My father told me they used to go in there in the 30's or 40's and at one time the entrance was closed off. I guess an owner finally came along & opened it up for paying customers.

I agree.  I'll bet there are quite a few memorable sites in the caverns to see.  It would be an interesting place to visit.
