A number of things can cause a tree to do that. A burl, a mold and so forth. It's far too young to be of much significance. That tree looks no older than around 25 years, if that.

As far as treasure sign goes, imagine what you would use to point to a treasure. Remember that you would only be REMINDING yourself, not leaving clues like in a Harrison Ford movie. Why would you ever in a bazillion years leave a road map to where you left real treasure? And why would you use a tree, which can be chopped down at any time by anyone passing by? If you really want to find treasure sign, look in personal journals, diaries and in book ephemera from someone who you suspect was richer than he or she let on in life. If you search on this forum for the word "diary" and posts from me, you'll find a real life example of treasure found that way.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Oh, I didn't mean to imply I was reading this tree as a sign of treasure, I'm hoping to find artifacts like arrowheads, I saw it as a sign that the area had activity at some point.  Trail trees are rare, I don't expect this to be one but I am not overlooking the possibility, exploring the region in depth will definitely be worth my time, I can't wait!

As you said earlier, It might just point to water or A Trail/Passage to lead people through the hills, As for treasure I doubt that it would point to Treasure, More like a resource of some sort, As first Nations People did not suffer from greed like the white people did/Do.

I'd dispute that....the objects of desire/greed were undoubtedly different, but greed itself is far from being a white-centric trait.

My bet is it's a Simple tree that was Unlucky to be Struck by Lightening and Blasted.  I can't see that tree being older then 20 or 50 years even a Oak.  Oaks are long live tree's!    Even here in the parched Desert they can do 200 years.  It depends on the water, Grounds and Chance.

Look at the laws about native artifacts in your state before you start posting about your finds.

Absolutely! This property is in our family, that is the only reason we will be exploring it.   I hope this doesn't mean I'm going to be arrested for finding an arrow head in my backyard when I was 7 - yikes!!
