I did just do a check on the internet and when you type in "largest man made lake east of the Mississippi,,,,EVERYBODY  wants to claim the largest..ie. Clarks Hill , Kentucky Lake, Lake Marion..ect!!!  I find that kinda funny as there can really only be one!!

This is true and being that the core runs most of those why would they lie about ea one being the largest east of the mississipi well anyways wikipedia , claims its ky lake by surface are and cumberland lake by volume, but that still doesnt explain why a govt agency would lie about it's lakes ? ? ?

Heck, if we Texans could figure out a way to claim the largest man made reservoir east of the Mississippi, you know we'd be in on that action too!   (as a matter of fact we probably have a claim to having been instrumental in building all of 'em)....but I think we ought to get back to the topic of the Confederate Treasury.

Sackett, I was just reading your post. For everyone else I am sorry it has been so long. I remember hearing about the money cashe in the wall of the Edgefield courthouse. It seems that Abb and Edge were the great cashe and storage areas of south carolina during and after the Civil War. There is a house between edgefield and trenton that stored the state archives during and after the civil war. I learned bout this when I used to attend the Gary Camp a few years ago. Been meaning to go back but...

Hmmm, that house may be a key to the "lost treasury"...No doubt that the people of that house at LEAST knew something of it!

My area also has its tales of confederate gold. Legend has it that there is a stash buried some where near the old ports hill ferry in the great pd river swamp and a legend of a rail car that was hidden on a rail spur then tearing up the rails to hide its location. Many have tried to find these locations but none succeeded.  Cheesy
