One of the best resources for in-depth articles and maps of the Civil War by both sides is the four volume set of "Battles and Leaders of the Civil War", the definitive research work for generations of Civil War historians, written by the officers and men who participated in the actual battles. The volumes not only give the reader more insight to the many great battles, but also mentions little battles long forgotten. They will be indispensible to anyone who reads them.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
