Go Up Go Down

My kid brother bought some property that had once had a service station on it. It was complete with two of the old windup pumps that had the whirly thing inside of a glass bubble. Neither was in working order but he still has them. The gasoline tanks were above ground and rusted through with broad patches of daylight showing everywhere. Part of the service station building was still standing but most of it was crumbling bricks, mortar and lots of crunched glass. It was to be bulldozed in a few days to make way for his new home so I took that as an opportunity to poke around and see what I could find.

The men's room was still standing and I started there. Under the sink was a wooden panel that covered the plumbing. Off came the panel and what I saw got my ticker pumping double time. I found a small glass jar with a grimy cloth in it. It was heavier than I expected so I was careful to pull out the cloth to see what was there. Inside were these two coins which I still have to this day. I threw away the cloth.

This find was a test for me as it should be for you. Enjoy.

I have read that story GD but you messed up the rag was part of Lincolns coat that he had on when that dude pop a cap in his butt. If you can interpret the weaving it was a map to a big treasure hide by General Yammy in New Mexico.

I am curious how old the jar was given that the coins are 68 years apart in age. Were you able to tell?

The jar was a screw cap type without a lid. Looked to me like an older baby food jar. Just a small thing, impossible to date.

Those trade dollars have a really interesting history to them....they never were meant for use inside the US.   I'm not sure whether it or the Draped Liberty is more impressive.   Definitely special finds.

this is not a real 1804 silver dollar, 1804 is one of the most publized coins in history for rarities. there are 8 originals known and restrike second reverse 7 are known with plain edge. the last one that sold went for $4,140.000 first reverse and 1,207,000 for second reverse. so if you have this coin in your possession. you would never work again and call an auction house immediately!
