Remember the Maine memorial

(1/1)

toleary34:
Near Vernal, Utah I stopped a this "Remember the Maine" and "Remember Pearl Harbor" memorial that is painted high on a cliff face.  The memorial commemorates the sinking of the Maine in Havana harbor at the beginning of the Spanish American War, and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.  The original painting was painted in 1898 and has since been repainted as of seventy five years ago.  If ever anyone has any curiosity of exact location of this place, please let me know....I believe it is very important to recognize the existence of such memorials to the men and history that have shaped our country and our world history.  There are also tons of petroglyphs three miles up the road from this memorial.  please take care everyone.

Impressive.....Wm Gibson definitely did NOT want people to forget.  I'm also glad someone added Pearl Harbor later.

Spooky, are you volunteering to hang off the edge of that cliff to do the touch up work when it is needed?    If so, I'll be happy to stand on the ground and tell you when you missed a spot.    :)

You know I was thinking.....

September 11th?

Just a thought.....

On another note, this makes me think of "Partisan Rock" from "Red Dawn"

BitburgAggie_7377:
September 11th works, as does Beruit (although, too many people already forgot Beruit).....another possibility (to one side) would be the POW/MIA banner.

You know a lot of people DO forget Beirut.

Good call on the Beirut one.  I love to see any memorial that documents the past, and the sacrafices of those before us.

Of course the French do, they lost people there, same as Afghanistan and Iraq up to this day. Don't knock the French, they're good soldiers and know what they're doing.
