Any tips on finding that Nevada gold

(1/1)

Goldie locks:
Hey, I'm new to prospecting and live in the Elko, NV area. I am having a terrible time finding any color in my pan around the Charleston District. I've realized how hard it can be to find placer gold in this area. Not a whole lot of bed rock to be had... At least where I've been prospecting and without heavy machinery!  :D

Anyone on here have any experience in prospecting in and around NE Nevada? Any tips will be very appreciated! Need an icebreaker big time lol.

Panning is long and tedious hard work, best to take a bunch of samples in zip lock bags and mark the bags to coordinate with the spots you took the samples, then pan them put at the end of the day to find where the best places were. Look for ancient river beds. Search the inside of the bends and around large rounded boulders down in the stream and up high on the banks, the higher areas are a lot of times the best places but you have to dif down usually to the bedrock or the top couple inches of clay. Get a good metal detector like the MXT which is extremely hot on gold and use it along your way, your in nugget country and the MXT will find the smallest pieces also, its an easy machine to learn and is one of the best all purpose machines available an affordable price that wont break the bank.

Thanks for the tips! I went out there about a week ago and came up bust all around. Unfortunate I didn't have my sluice with me, so it was nothing but panning. The water is running pretty high right now, and I couldn't get up river north of Charleston due to snow drifts and boggy roads. I used my metal detector, but only found a bullet (which wasn't too awful of a find but not gold all the same).

This time I've got my metal detector and the sluice. I know there's gold out there, now it's just a matter of pin pointing a hot area! Hopefully this time will be different.
