USA National Parks

(1/1)

seaquer:
Besides 39 CFR 261.9 (part of the Code of Federal Regulations) which prohibits digging in archaeologic, pre-historic and historic sites, does anyone know of any prohibition that might legally preclude me from coin shooting or jewelry hunting in the (USA) National Parks?  There is an admission fee up front so I would not want to pay to play only to learn it isn't allowed.

I know that mining for minerals is governed elsewhere but hardly think coin and jewelry recovery are covered or were ever intended to be considered mining.

If anyone has experience in these areas (National Parks) please reply.

If you know if it's OK (or not) or know of another regulation that addresses my plan please reply.

ArfieBoy:
It is illegal to metal detect in all U.S. national parks & monuments.  Doing so will result in confiscation of metal detectors, vehicles and any other possessions you may have with you, plus very high fines.
