Hello All

Idaho Jones nice bit of research. Well done with the newspaper articles.

The more I read into this Victorio peak legend the more it seems possible that Doc was either involved in a discovery in the Caballo mountains of treasure?

Or judging by his alleged prison records involved in a treasure scam exploiting discoveries found in the Caballos?

I am not sure which at the moment ???

Now I wonder what was the source of this treasure in the Caballos?

Thanks everyone for the very interesting research.

Hardluck.  :)

Idaho Jones:
Thanks Seldom, just looking at the dore bare opens my eyes. For some reason I was picturing a much purer gold bar even though I keep reading about the crust or oxidation on them.

Hardluck I am right there with ya. Which story is real or are they all real or are they all based off that first story which could be fake?

So did Doc stumble onto Ward and Doughits treasure cave? Or did he just take the story to pump up his find? Perhaps there are two or more large caches with armor and skeletons....

Did Ward and Doughit actually find what they said or was it just what they hoped to find in that cave? Did they just misplace it after a year? I can imagine Wards trauma of losing his legs might jar his memories. But Doughit supposedly brought a bar to town, and there had to be something to make the sheriff and guards willing to go with them to the cave. Although if they were robbed as they said where did that bar come from? Was it Doc who robbed them?

Why were both Doc and earlier Ward and Doughit still out there digging after everyone else thought it was a hoax? If it was a hoax why work so hard and or incur debt because of it by hiring trucks and guards?

Did the Indians of the area capture W & D and learn of the treasure and then move it lock stock and skeletons to Victorio for Doc to find? I kinda doubt it but it crosses the mind.

Did Samiego really work with Doc at Victorio or was that a ruse by him as well since he always said he found the armor in the Caballos? Did he really just finds a suit of armor and when the glitter wore off connected himself with Doc to relive those glory days and get back in the spotlight. Did he just get senile and confuse all the stories he had read since as real memories?

All these questions and so many more!  :D

Lots of that went on in every camp.

Did he just get senile and confuse all the stories he had read since as real memories?

I think that's what happen with Doc and Ova confusion. I am only 56 but with 40 years of TH I mix story's together all the time when telling them. Thats why I write everything down.

Hi Nick.  I guess that puts you in a pretty good position to answer at least some of the questions that have been raised----if you're willing to do so.
