JesseJames:
Just wanted to point out that the correct name of this mountain peak in NM White Sands is Victorio Peak named after the famous indian chief Victorio.

Thanks
Jesse

Thank you for that very informative post. Now I know that the Victorio peak was derived its name with the chief. Why is it very familiar with the name Victoria peak? Is this the one which found in Hongkong?

You are right...it was named after Victorio the Apache chief.....but the topo maps of the 50s and the first writer "Curse of The San Andres" and all others knew it as Soledad Peak......I would love to know when that changed to Victorio....sometime in the early 60s I guess....and who changed it on the topos???

Hello All

I suppose the legend and revived interest in it inspired the geographical names board to change the name of the mountain to a more historically identifiable name.
