Hello . I found this PDF schematic file yesterday and I am comparing it with two older version schematics I have ............ After the Lobo , this finally might be a great project . Maybe now the TX oscillator and the disc. circuit is correct and working ?

Regards......Eugene

Hello Erolunall . Yes it is , but the tx [transmit oscillator] transistors might not be correct ? Was posted on foreign language forum last year , from December 2008 ? Any comments are welcome here !!
Best Regards.........Eugene

Hello NC-DD . The Relic Hawk project was never completed . I think the number one problem is the original Relic Hawk was built and designed with surface mount technology then a few years later a "cloned" pcb circuit board was built using through hole components , there is your first big problem !!! I believe when ever you change from "Surface mount" to "through hole" or Vica-versa you are going to have problems if you are not carefull with your supply and ground trace design even if all the parts you use are correct !! If a new circuit borard is not designed right you will have signal cancellation or noise problems . The Relic Hawk using "through-hole" may have to built on two circuit boards . The other problem was the transmit oscillator circuit was never corrected from the first posted schematic that had errors . The Relic Hawk was a Great Metal Detector before it was discontinued . It was replaced by the Minelab Advantage and is a good machine if you use the right search coil .
Regards.........Eugene

Hello Again . The Relic Hawk was a classic and I think it was discontinued because it was too good for the price Minelab sold it for . Another example is like Garretts GTI-2000 was discontinued because it worked just as good as the GTI-2500 and was priced $200 [u.s.] dollars less !! I also have sold some great machines I wish I could get back , Live and learn the hard way ........I would love to see the Relic Hawk project started and finished if only we had the time right now ........... The Inlaws and Outlaws here at my house are throwing a huge 53rd B.D. party for me with Pizza and Adult refreshments !! Signing Off .

That's not an easy task because the original designer of the project may no longer be building anything and may never actually have completed the project to start. The caveat to all these circuits is clear and most of them state that they are experimental. A complete, end to end, working metal detector that has zero mistakes may just be a rumor rather than a fact.

Couple that with the fact that the files sometimes get separated or modified by someone who believes they have a better mousetrap and the information can get scrambled despite the best efforts of folks to keep them current. Nature of the beast, I'm afraid.

The best way to find a complete, working design is to seek out a magazine article published in a major magazine. The editors usually ensure that the item is at least functional before they release it in their magazines.
