Hello all,

I put in Download VLF section on zip file with PCB .lay, schematic and part lists of Relic Hawk.

I do not test it, but it was the last modifications make on it ( see Geotech forum).

Hello Luke . I followed the Relic Hawk project very closely on another Forum for several months and there were some problems . If I remember correctly . The first schematic that was posted had some errors , the TX [transmit] oscillator section and the discrimination circuit .  When they tested the prototype it worked only in the all metal mode . As I stated before the Original Relic Hawk PCB was a surface mount , the new copy was through hole . Correct me if I am wrong but I think the circuit board component layout and all the power traces should be changed or completely start over and split the schematic  for 2 separate PCB boards ......Remember "Coinseeker 2"  they are still selling  ? ...I read it does not even come close to the depth and performance of the Relic Hawk . Others are welcome to comment here and Thank-you Luc for posting all the Relic Hawk information . Maybe now with everyones "Expertise" we can finish the Project ?
HH...........Eugene

Hi - I'm a new user here. And I posted a short introduction in the forums.

This is not an impossible task (cloning the Relic Hawk - I'm not familiar with this detector). I am, however, quite familiar with surface mount technology.

If people want to finish this project (or any other for that matter) it's just a question of resources. If I could get my hands on a sacrificial machine (to take apart) an accurate schematic is entirely possible (though time consuming). However, they seem to be quite rare and sought after, and a bit pricey. But if there was a group of users on this board that wanted to get something working, perhaps we could all pitch in (become investors) and buy one. I could work off a completely broken machine also. That could go for any of the old favorite machines. I'm short on time until January/Febuary, but I just wanted to toss that out there.
Egads. Being a new user, I guess I have to make a few more posts before I am able to download the relic hawk schematics posted above. I somebody could email me the file I would appreciate it.

Hi - I'm also a new user here and I try to find out how to begin with VLF detectors.  I have experience in design and modification of circuits, drawing, layout and making bcp`s. Measuring equipment is on hand. My target ist to find iron tubes in aprox. 1,5 m depth. Any suggestion?
Regards Erhard
sorry, I forgot that "iron tubes" is a water tube of about 2 inches.

Hello Erhard . The Relic hawk VLF metal detector might be the project to study !!!  Look on the Forum Download area and the Tech-Talk are to find the files or I can e-mail you some files in a few days .
The Relic Hawk posted on this Forum had 2 problems . 1st was TX oscillator circuit was not correct and the second problem was RX phase relationship with the discrimination circuit . And I think the worst problem may have been caused by the PCB circuit board that was worked on , it was a "through hole" design . The original Relic Hawk Metal Detector was a SMD suface mount designed Metal Detector !!  I think there may have been some signal "suck-out" or signal canceling on the re-done through hole pcb version !!!

It would be great if you have time to check the Relic Hawk schematic and pcb board that was done in 2008 . It is now discontinued and the Minelab Musketeer took its place running at 5 khz also .

Best Regards...........Eugene

Hello Eugene. O.K. I look for the Relic hawk VLF metal detector. In the Geotech forums I found some files about this detector and I think they discussed the same problem, TX oscillator and discrimination circuit. I am interested in your files and latest statements.
Best Regards
Erhard

Glad you are interested in this project also . I will post some more files if they are needed . Another thing to remember is a lot of the Relic Hawk design ideas were carried over to the Musketeer model . If we can find a good Musketeer schematic and study the circuit similarities [look for the unknown transistor numbers ] we might be able to complete the Relic Hawk . We will talk more on this great machine later , When time permits .

Best Regards............Eugene
