try to set rx coil so that you get an induced voltage lower than 10mV
fix the coil at this Point, check for right behaviour of coil, function of ground Balance (test with a pieces of ferrite)
and Disc. 100g hammer and a coin.

if this does not work
flip one part of the coil the tx OR the rx side - or just Change one Connection of connector from tx   OR rx, winding direction of tx and rx should be same direction

if this does not work too
try another cap value maybe at rx stage on pcb, to get better ratio of frequency difference between tx and rx

good luck

another Thing: your test coil Looks bad, loose winding  - fix them tightly and bring tx and rx coil in symetrical shape

Bernte_one is right. Get that coil tightly wrapped, then get it nulled, so as little as possible signal is in the secondary. Then take a coin and place it on the gap so as much signal as possible is seen on an oscilloscope. From there, remove rx cap from the board, hook a capacitor sub box across the coil and substitute different  caps until the signal cannot get any bigger. Put a cap on the rx board with that value. If you don't have a sub box, use individual capacitors. This is where the coil is most sensitive.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

Unfortunately a lot of new members come here get the build done, then you don't hear from them any more. I hope that it won't be the case here.
