Hello Everyone . I have a bunch of information I will post here over the next several days !! Over the years I have downloaded and saved a bunch of various search-coil information that includes how to make your own "home-made" search coils . Remember , it is not as easy as everyone thinks !!! The search coils are specifically built for a certain Group of metal detector models . If the search coil is not made correctly , then your metal detector will not work correctly !! Then you will pass over targets and waste your whole day outside . I first will post information on search-coils specifically for the VLF schematics I only posted on THIS FORUM !!
Over the years it has been very hard to find complete/correct and final-tested search coil data . Because it has always been spread out in little bits and pieces . It will be kinda tuff to find everything for everybody , but there should be enough on my old computer and on the internet to make everyone happy . My next post here , right after this one will be a list of search-coils that must , and will be posted for all the Thunting.com  forum schematics "only" . This is also to answer the e-mail questions I got recently here !! ....P.I. or pulse induction search-coils are much easier and will posted under the P.I. section . If you have a bad search-coil you need fixed , PLEASE post that under the "metal detector repair section" ...........Here we will be Posting /building only the search-coils for Thunting.com projects.....................Regards......Eugene52

Here is the first of several files and diagrams of VLF search-coils . Tesoro search-coils will be examined closely first .

Hello Again . Like I mentioned before , two important issues .  Remember , it will take a little extra time to post accurate VLF search-coil specs here , I guess I have saved the hardest for last , I am almost ready to post images and files now here . The search-coil and all its parameters must be 100% correct ...... Keep in mind ,  Everyone on this forum can build a perfect "circuit board" if they have patients and can make a clean solder joint !!! 1. All VLF search coils are harder to make than P.I. search coils . 2 . If your VLF coil is not correct , your metal detector will be kind of useless , and you will never adjust your PCB internal trim-pots correctly !! . A Great suggestion is if you have a perfect Factory Search coil that is specifically made for the VLF circuit you are about to make , use it !!! Then adjust and set up your circuit board , "Peak-it to proper specs" and do not tweak on it ever again  , unless it is dropped or run-over by your car  !! "Then make your search-coil" !!!.......Doing both from scratch can be done , but it takes longer if you do not own or can borrow a decent oscilloscope !!........Either way , It is a Bunch of fun and very Rewarding learning VLF and Discrimination circuits................Regards.............Eugene52

I have built a DD coil for my VLF detector.  It detects metal but thats all it does.  I am confused about the buck coil and what it does.  I want my coil to Ground balance and discriminate.  The tx coil resonates on the right frequency, and the RX coil has the same inductance as the manufaturer's coil.  Please help, I refused to give up.

Hello and welcome to this great Forum !! It sounds like you did not null your DD coil properly to minimize RX voltage . Also your winding direction of your RX coil is not correct . Do not be discouraged , experiment with different number of windings , and directions of turns !!! I do not know what frequency your detector is running at or what Make it is . So I will just answer your other question , a bucking coil is used so the Rx coil recieves only Target signals in the ground , and not signals from the tx coil . Bucking coils have one-fourth the number of turns to the TX . If the tx has 100 turns the bucking coil will have just less than 25 turns . And a bucking coil is usually wound tightly on the o.d. of the RX coil  . Here is just a reference picture to show winding numbers:

Any info on building a good PI monoloop coil for a Whites TDI?
