Hi,
if you ware looking for a simple detector to search for small items (i.e. coins) not deeper than some 15 cm, which of the designs do you think it would work better (less retuning, ground effect problems) ee buccaneer or ETI561 from

? Since Garett ACE 150 cost approx. EUR 140, it doesn't pay to built something more sophiticated. Any idea for a simple usefoul detector ?

 Hello

I have used bfo detectors before and have built some too . I too have looked at the geotech website and they have quite abit of schematics from bfo to more advanced pulse circuits.
very good website. The bucanner seems to be the easiest to build and since i dont know how much experience you have in electronics, i would recommend the bucaneer.I would also recommend the hounddog ib detector from that webpage since it uses minimal parts andif built correctly should give decent results for the parts used.if you estimate over 140 dollars,
i would try finding a good used detector. if you are wanting to build, then bucaneer or hounddog. scrap out radios, older tvs, go to amateur radio flea markets ,etc. Building can be fun and rewarding since any treasure found is by a homemade unit.

hope this helps,

Two main factors exit for small objects like coins hunting ,
first operating frequency & the other is size of searching coil , at high frequency  small objects can be find better than the low frequency ,
on the other hand smaller searching coil can find small object very effectively than the large size coil,
simply wind small size of coil for your ETI561 detector, it will give you better result
