VLF has Conniption Fits in salt water.  In the surf with waves coming and going over the coil your going to have a response every time a wave or wavelet roles over the coil.

Deep Water, you can do your best to correct for the salt and they can work.

It works but is blinded by the salts.

Ground Balanced AKA Salt balanced they work but targets are hidden by the salt.

If you can find targets @ 6" your doing good.

If your wanting to hunt salt water they are the best.

I have a old XL5oo Pi I'm working on to being down the Sample time to hunt for Nuggets here in New Mexico.

No mater what any one tells you there is NO SUCH THING as a discriminating PI detector.

The only way to discriminate is to Knock out some thing.

Low Conductive Targets like Gold, Need a fast sample rate.   (LOW MAGNETIC, NOT LOW ELECTRICAL)

Yes my interest is salt water wreck diving... price is not really the option for a detector for me... I need something reliable and best for finding gold and silver underwater 30-200FT

In that case I will not recommend any manufacturer.

I will say PI is the machine you need.

 Whites Makes some good machines.

Garrett makes them too!  Good Ones!

Fisher Makes some Fine Machines.

Minlab makes some but I think there over Priced.

To Each their Own!

Look around
