Hi all,

you know the situation when the TID on a VLF bounces
between Iron and Silver, because of phase wrapping...

I was wondering what you call this effect?

Please vote in the above poll, and if you have any other
name for this phenomenon, please feel free to post it...

Happy Hunting
Eddy

Huh?   Are you talking about Iron Masking?

Sorry. I have never heard of such a thing and I've been an engineer for decades.

Are you thinking of the phenomenon of a discrimination circuit where you have both notch and bandpass filtering in a programmable unit?

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

cheers for your replies guys  Cool
much appreciated...

no, I don't mean Iron Masking. I'm talking about the effect caused by highly corroded iron targets.

Such targets can cause different signals due to Iron bleed/leach (Halo Effect), but these terms describe what causes the phenomenon, rather than them being a label for the technical bit happening in the discrimination circuit due to these causes.

What I mean is, what is it called when the phase shift happens to exceed -TT or +TT ?

HH Eddy

cheers homefire...

I already know about the Halo Effect, what I'm actually looking for is the name for the
technical bit happening in the discrimination circuit because of the Halo Effect...

thanks for the link anyway  Cool

yes, I know.. but no, phase shift is not the term I'm looking for.

what I am looking for is the name for when the phase shift is more than one
wavelength, in other words, when the phase shift kind of overtakes itself...

Huh?     Got me on that one.     Usually that sort of thing would be seen as a Overload by the detection circuits.     The Detector would Howl like a Banchie! Cool

nothing should overload when this happens.. all it means for the
machine, is that it can't make it's mind up between two targets.

We often see this happening, but usually the target ID numbers
are right adjacent to each other when it happens.

In the case of a phase wrap, however, the machine shows that
the target ID numbers are at opposite ends of the meter.

a bit confusing Cheesy I know...
