Been playing with this detector for several months and am surprised at how well it functions but was disappointed with it's depth ability so took it apart and fiddled with the 2 trimmer pots. Discovered that the one on the end of the board in the corner is for the discriminator, don't touch it, as I did and had to re-adjust it back to it's original setting. The other trimmer pot towards the middle of the board is the one you want to play with. I am now getting 2" more depth than I was before tweaking and am much happier with the total performance of this inexpensive unit, which was $39.32 out the door, tax and all, but I had a coupon for 25% off. Have dug over $25 in change in the past 2 months with this unit and it is a capable machine. It still needs some beefing up in it's general design, and I will be doing some more mods concerning the wand and box attachment. Here's one of the YT videos I've done about this unit.

Those detectors or a variant there of were marketed under a number of names.  I have the Radio Shack 3006 and a few other schematics if you want them.  If not the same the 3006 will be all but.

Oh yeah!! I would love to have some schematics on the RS 3006, or whatever you think might be close.

The 3006 and Microna have commonality for sure.

Thanks for the schematics Homefire! After looking them over the RS 3006 - 4003 is actually different but the schematics are interesting to me. The HF9 has a 9v power supply consisting of 6AA batteries whereas the RS detector is based on 18v supplied by 9v batteries. Other differences, but similar construction. I think the HF9 is a culmination of many years of design experimentation and that they finally have arrived with a capable detector that is inexpensive. I will be modding this one out to be sturdier, the only complaint I have.

I have a Microna 3005 here some place. It uses 6AA.   It's more capable of finding things then people would think.

Cool! If you happen to run across schematics for the 3005 I'd love to see them. Thanks again!
