I have a hip mount for mine and it makes a big difference with weight. I find the ground cancelling to be quite
easy even in highly mineralized ground, I just check it often when moving around such as changes in elevation.

I'm not sure how much you know about discrimination but if you can detect a nickle you can pick up gold
if you can't pick up a nickle or you get double signals when passing over a nickle I would say you have your
discrimination set to high, You will find more trash but will find gold rings, bracelets etc.

You will not be disappointed in the Ace 250. You can get it at kellyco for around $212 or around $300 with the 2 coils. I would avoid the Automax v4 pinpointer because it does not due much. The thing is super light and will find you lots of coins and discriminates decent on iron/foil in the coin mode or jewelry mode. One tip I learned is that a coin is on the surface the display will show 6-8 inches and makes lots of noise. The 350 is nice from what I see but not worth the difference to me. Go to youtube and search the Ace 250 it they have lots of videos....Good luck and have the MRS. watch the video and tell her how much you would love to have one.... Wink

Go Up Go Down

Time for my second post on this forum.

I used one of these in the 80's. It is heavy. In one place I hunted I used the coaxial coil. This is probably the heaviest coil they made for the unit. It is like an 8 in x 2 in thick doughnut potted in heavy epoxy. At the time I needed to hunt underneath a fence made of 2 in steel pipe. The coaxial coil responded downward but not to the steel less than a foot above it. I found coins others never saw. I was also able to find coins near some buried electrical conduits where no other detector was usable.

Because of the weight, I actually moved the electronics to another case with the meter mounted on the end and hung it on a belt clip. I put it all back before treading the detector for a black powder rifle. I still have the case, meter and the coaxial coil.

As to the battery I got good service using rechargeable 9v batteries. The newer ones available today should hold up much better. I simply carried an extra set fully charged and never had downtime form empty batteries that I recall.
