Go Up Go Down

Hello everyone! First off, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I moved to Washington (courtesy of the Army) about a year ago and dove right into panning for gold with my best friend. I will tell anyone who wants to get into the search for ol' yeller to do 4 things:
1. Join a club. There are plenty local ones, like the Bedrock Prospectors (I am a member of this club as well as the GPAA). My finds are about an ounce of gold, some nails (newer ones), and a lot of bird shot and BBs.

2. when buying equipment, I bought mine from Cabelas. I bought the deluxe kit. Ditch the bag and replace it with a good backpack, procure several 5 gal buckets, a blue bowl (just google it), big shovel, small shovel, several different sizes of pry bars and hammers, several old big rusty flat head screwdrivers (garage sales are awesome!) and a lot of asprin/ pain reliever.

3. Buy some concentrates (ebay or from a local mine. There is one I go to near Blewett...$10 a scoop). This is not to "make a profit", the concentrates are for practice panning. Some split shot will do until you can get some paydirt to practice with.

4. Never go out prospecting without a partner. I almost got taken out by a rather large nasty boulder out on one of the claims. Kind of puts things in perspective.

I am looking at getting into detecting/ treasure hunting this next summer. Just need something to do once the last 2 kids' get out of the door to "institutions of higher learning"....at least in between soaking pots, salmon and deer.

Welcome from NM.    Sounds like you have a Handle on what you like.

Not a fan of the Blue Bowl but that's just a tick in the pan.

Yep, Not so Smart going out alone.

Around these parts there are some  Squirrely Folks out there.

Blue bowl is ok...not a huge fan of it either. Mine is used at home...not good for the field. I like shooting squirrels, when the situation warrants it.
