I havent done my research on it them yet, but could this be a meteorite? my detector went nuts over this thing. Its about 4 inches long and about an inch thick. One side is smooth and the other looks like it was blasted in a furnace

Off hand I'd say no. But I wonder if there was a black smith around the area.You might be real close on the furnace idea.

I bet your right, I found it near an old farmhouse site that was built in the 1850's and razed in 1930's. I found alot of handmade iron relics there, I'll post my relic find pics sometime from that site.
