someguypeter;

inv may be inveritas... or in truth.

One of my Scottish ancestor families has /veritas vincit/ for a motto (truth conquers,) they also used one in English, with a related meaning: /they say, what say they, let them say./

Anything inveritas would be in truth, real.... yes, it was  the Keith clan... they also borrowed a Grant motto; /touch not the cat/ or /touch not the cat but with a glove/ and used a Scottish wild cat head on different devices. meee-ow! Funny

The coin really, really reminds me of the masonic coins. Wise

someguypeter;

Since the latest Canadian cent was 1896, that would tend to indicate, any batte took place around that time, or a bit later..... dont think so. It was not a battle, unless you were in South Africa.

Batoche was about the last battle, in Canada.... I doubt if there very many coins there, and if some Metis found you digging holes in their beloved Batoche, the war might start again. Funny

Batoche was not a battle, it was a massacre; cannon and gatling guns against muskets.

The Plains of Abraham was in the 1700s.... we have a missing battle here.

The coin really, really reminds me of the masonic coins.

Inv....Inveritas.... in truth or true

No wonder I could not find my post..... it went to a future page, oh well, so I repeated myself, a bit. No no!

First let me say, I am totally inexperienced in 'coin' identification.

But my first question would be what is the metal?

Then, with the apparent 'hanger' on the top edge, I would think it to be simply a coin replica with a hanger loop that was perhaps attached to a sort of chain bracelet of costume jewelry.

I admit, I have a whole lot to learn and very possibly be very wrong.  It just reminds me of a childs bracelet I had when I was very young.

Fun find tho, that may or may not be something very old.

I don't know if anyone has positively identified this coin yet.   If so, there is no mention of it here.   If not, i haven't identified it either, but I have some information/speculation that may help.

1) given both the condition and the style of the coin, I don't think it was minted in 1497.
2) I think that it memoralizes an event that occured in 1497 that would have involved Maximillian I, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.
3) The portrait of Maximillian appears to be based on a painting done by Albrecht Durer

4) what the event could be would be anyone's guess.  I find significant events involving Maximillian in 1496, but nothing jumps out so far for 1497.
as a quick follow up......If I'm correct about Durer's portrait of Maximillian being the basis for the coin portrait, the coin could not have been minted in 1497.   Durer did not paint that portrait until 1519
