The time periode could be correct but the location is not quite right. Middle east was the right direction Smiley

Hello Paul,

no Smiley It seems to have come from the holy land having been part of the sword of a crusader. As you correctly stated at first it is the Vikings now for this technique. However it has also been used in the orient.

Regards,

Christian

Hi Christian,
I would have to agree with Paul that its a pommell, but I would have to say by the size it comes from a short sword. from the looks of it, It appears that may be some sort of design. but to its orgion thats another question. my best guess would be china,,, Rob

Well
I'd guess Viking sword pommel as well !
Looks like 9-13 century
Even if it was found in a diff part of the world   remember us Norskys went every where and   "traded "  Wink
With every one
The Norse were big on wire inlay into iron  ,Bronz etc
Looks like copper and silver   in Iron
Might try the Viking Answer Lady

looks like a iron base with copper / silver twisted wire type design made to it --part of a sword end peice maybe --seems very old . --- celts and viking interacted -- celtic "knot" and rope work designs are well known of .

Very good! But unfortunately not quite right Smiley It's from a different part of the world.

Who's to say that a Viking warrior didn't travel and perish in the spot you found it? haha. Or who's to say that a Viking sword was traded for goods to a foreigner and the foreigner took it back? The barter system was all the rage back then. Anything's possible.

When I first saw it I thought "extraterrestrial" doo-dober thingy. Then that reminded me of that History Channel special on ancient tools that shouldn't have been possible. Like when they X-Rayed this box in the bottom of some mass of water it had a whole bunch of gears and intricate parts. Also, it had Celtic markings on it. But I'm straying away from topic.. I can't see how it could fit on a sword, but then again i don't even know all the sword types. The underside looks like it was cast upside down in some material and the top of the cast became the underside. Someone else wrote about copper and silver windings and that struck a chord in my memory as well. I read about energy work and how copper and silver are opposites on the yin and yang scale and that when combined they have some intrinsic abilities, or whatever. I've read some far out stuff though.
