I found this earlier today it's 3 1/4 tall by 3 inches wide, anybody ?
I found it in a field near a shack on an old dairy farm not sure what it's made of guessing iron.
Thanks for any help,

I think you found the Tip or Lead end of a Leather Lead of some type.

The leather strap would have gone like this.

Ok, Changed my mind!

It is the Heal of a boot.   Like a tap!    Stopped the warring of the heal.

I'm going with Homefire and Karl on this one.  Once I got a good look at it the thought "boot heel" sped through my mind.  (Not much sticks there anymore!)

It doesn't look heavy enough or thick enough to stand up to rigors of branding to me!             Detecting

I also agree with Homie....I frequently come up with a wide assortment of heel "taps" of that size when hunting sites from the mid 1800's to the early to mid 1900's.
