I was detecting on the beach when my AT Pro started beeping on a solid 60, it happened to be this rock. I attach 3 pictures. Also uploaded a video to youtube.
In the video I have 3 subjects for the detecting experiment, first a metal shovel, then an ordinary rock and finally the beeping rock.
Settings: Pro mode, Iron disc 35, sensitivity 6 bars.
Not the best video quality, but you get the idea.

Opinions?

Bauxite. Plenty of that in Uruguay.

Not sure about the bauxite or the iron in coral. There is no coral here, and also, the detector beeps at 60, so no ferrous material.

Here are some more pics. The rock is heavy for its size, 4.5'' and weights 2 pounds exactly.

I found it at about 7'' under dry sand.

Why are you doing this? Why ask us? We can't touch it or do anything with it. Take it to a geologist and ask them. Seriously. Or crack it open.

Its a piece of metal that the sand has bonded to, happens all the time no big mystery. Open it up and see whats inside.  As the oldtimers and techs have said a 100 time the meter on your detector is of little use so please stop relying on it.

In it's presentation it is a porous rock of nondescript specifications. Your tests indicate something within. Its like an M&M. If you keep looking at the shell you'll never know if there's a peanut or chocolate underneath. The answer is within. Crack it open or chip away. At this point, it is just a rock.

Like Seldom and Cadmus said, it is pretty common in coastal areas for sand to encrust metallic objects forming "rocks" like you have found.    Heck, I've even found a few of them when I've hunted the coasts, and I don't make it out of the desert very often.

Look at my beeping rocks.
The DFX was giving me a signal of a good target; I could only see a lamp of iron.
Then I turn them around.
You can see a coin sticking out on the top of the bigger one, and you can see one encapsulated on the second one.
Just brake your rock and see what its inside and done with it.
