Go Up Go Down

I found this a few years ago here in Ohio. It appears to be a heart, cut out of an Australian coin. There 3 layers glued, or soldered together. Any idea what the coin was? Time period?

Thanks, Tim

Just a bit small for me to make out anything. It does look interesting Smiley

Can you post a bigger photo?

Happy hunting

Mike

Mike,
Thanks for the reply. I grabbed that pic off of a larger picture I have of it and 2 other silver coins I found all in the same day. I am at work now, but tonight, I will get it out and take a larger close up picture of it alone.

Thanks for the reply!
Tim

Hi Deepbeep
That heart shape coin is a pre decimal 1966  ( 1938 / 1944 , 25 millameter round ,silver one shilling coin, 92.5% silver 7.5% copper)  , that is the back with a Marino Sheep on it .  The Marino Sheep was introduced into Australia by John Macarthur in 1812 to boost his flock introduced by the first fleet to Australia in1788.
The Wool industry has always been a good industry for Australia to this day and it is the reason for a coin to be struck saluting the Marino sheep.

wow! Thanks Aussie......great information.

Too bad I didn't find the actual whole coin, but then again, I guess the heart is pretty unique in and of it's self.

Thanks again, nice work

Tim

Deepbeep,

Nice keepsake.
That Aussie wandered a long way from its home paddock.
Good to see it was well loved though.
