Thanks, Johnnn.   Those pictures should help.   The bottom of the scroll is now much clearer also.  Given the size of the piece and the presence of the solder on the back, I'd suspect that it was one of the following:
1) A lapel pin
2) A tie tack
3) One of a pair of cufflinks

Of course, it could just have been mounted on to a larger decorative piece like a neckerchief slide.   Can you describe that looped piece at the bottom of the scroll?  Does it look like a knot or more like a floral vine?

BA

Johnnn, both are indeed correct but the use is more simply regional. In the UK, Australia and most other Commonwealth countries, the Z is used most often.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I've been giving your item some thought and it looks like two lions sitting back to back in front of the tablets of the 10 Commandments. Many courts throughout the free world use those kinds of emblems. Some times separately and sometimes together.

We're thinking along the same lines.....I've been thinking either law related or library related since many libraries have lions out front.   I think the key is going to be the S and the F .   Figure those two letters out and you only have a handful of possibilities.

S and F? Such Fun? Science Fiction? San Francisco? Soldier of Fortune? Sam Finnegan? Silly Fools?

Law or library. Interesting and possible deductive leads as to what it may actually be. Onward!

Hi BA,
I have found a site with Jewish symbols and there are many with Lions guarding the "ten commandments" always two, the tablets are exactly placed as mine are but none show this exact type
thing is someone put this design together and had to have a title this is a mystery for sure............HH...........Johnnn
