Again not a personnel find but was found by my to detecting buddy's. I am interested to find out where the red garnet broach might come from. they think China. these were all found in the same day in the same area. they had a pretty good day worth of finds.

Don't know much about broaches, but they are cool finds. The red one looks Chinese with the dragon, and I thought the bluish ones maybe Mexican?
Cheers

Go Up Go Down

All of the Native American tribes in the Southwest have individual and distinctive styles of jewelry making as do the Hispanic makers in the same area and in northern Mexico, so it should be relatively easy to determine where the ring is from.  Since it says sterling on it, it will be fairly recent.  A lot of the older Pueblo and Navajo silver jewelry did not carry sterling markings even when it was.   My initial thought on the ring is that it is from Zuni.   The turquoise broach is going to be a bit tougher.  I don't recall ever seeing a flower motif like that on any Native American pieces, so it could be either Mexican made, or "made after the fashion of Indian jewelry".

As for the red broach, I'll see what I can find in my reference books after I get home (unless Seldom or someone else beats me to it)
