I did find this piece though and I need a Chinese or Japanese translator to figure out what it is exactly. It is a lid, but from what? It is not a screw top, it is lead. Ideas?

Please be more specific. What is the dimension of this lid? Dose it have a thread?  It could have been from an earn. I Goggled it but came up empty handed.

Hi Xavier
No its not a screw top. It is 1 1/4 inches across and has a lip of about 1/4, like an old foil cap off a milk bottle. Except its lead, there are no markings on the back.

That's small about three cm in diameter. It's like you said getting someone to translate it would help a lot. I'll keep looking on my side but lets hope that someone come by who can shed more light on this item of yours.

This is one of the reasons I love this hobby. We also have a Sterling Silver item that was found yesterday and by consensus it is a Napkin ring, lost at a wedding that took place at the park we were hunting.

Hi Hobbyist
That is a cool website.
I don't know if my calligraphy is so bad or if the type is so old, I couldn't get a match on any of it.
I will scan the lid and print it out and see if anyone can translate it for me.
Thanks for the help though.
Mark

The 3 characters in the rectangle from top to bottom:
Dragon
Horn
Mountain

The 4 other characters around the central rectangle are too indistinct to make out.
It's probably the topper covering the cork of a bottle of medicinal wine.
You have to install the traditional Chinese font (available from Microsoft) to get the proper results.

Hello Joe and Hobbyist
Yes that's the translation I got today as well from a customer of mine. He said it is also old. The site we hunted was a park a couple of hundred metres from an old saw mill site from the late 1800's. It might be from the labourers camp.
Thank you for your help.
