1 inch in diameter with a ladder or railroad track in middle and we believe it is keys crossed in the middle. The back is blank. It also has two ridges that encircle the tracks and keys.

Where there any street cars in the area back in the day where these was found? I worked for the railroad for many many years and never saw anything like this?

 Idea I think I found your mystery object. The cross is the old brass nozzle the fire dept. used long ago with a ladder in the center. The link below is a picture of a fire dept. pin that is close to what you found. Hope this helps.
