Go Up Go Down

I was recently detecting on a beach in North East Wales, UK; when I started sifting through the sand on the high tide line. I removed some scrap
and then noticed a small bone that looked kinda familiar. I am wondering if it is, perhaps, a human finger bone? Some guys on an other site say
that it is probably a goats finger bone..........( I didn't know that goats had fingers! ) A local doctor said that she thought that it looked human but
she couldn't say if it was, or not. I also found what looks like a stone scraper sitting in the shingle, about a hundred yards away.

Any ideas guys?

It's always best to place a Known Object in the photo for Size Comparison.

But Boy, that sure looks like the second joint of a finger to me.

Wow! They do look very similar. I normally place my items on a photographic scale when taking pictures for posting but didn't have my charts
with me at the time. Will endevour to do better next time.  Embarrassed

Had there been a ring with that bone; I would have phoned the local police. I am planning to visit my local museum on Thursady and see if
I can get an id on both the bone and the possible scraper. I am also going back to the beach on Monday to have agood look in the sand and
see if there are any more bones. In the event that I find something more convincing that I am dealing with human remains; I will be hot-footing
it to the local police station.

I have found human bones before.  It's always best to just put them back in the soil and be quiet about it.  You can tell by the color that they are very old.  There are thousands of ancient graves on every shoreline of every country.    The police aren't going to do anything except maybe arrest you for grave robbing or label that entire shoreline an "archaeological site" where "NO METAL DETECTORS" will be the first thing listed on the signs.

They look like bones from a whale or seal's flipper. Surprisingly, they look a lot like human bones. Even the largest of whales have small bones in their lateral fins, which are in reality vestigial hands.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
