Go Up Go Down

Founds these last weekend in an area with CW cavalry and artillery action.  I need help identifying what this small shield came from, the back side appears to be lead. Also found several of these lead capped nails that I have never encountered. Help with any of these items would be greatly appreciated

claydigger, adding a ruler or something of known size (like a quarter) to the picture helps with the identification.   It's hard to say for sure what something is if you don't know what size it is.

I don't know if it helps anyone to identify these, but I tried to enhance 3 of the pictures.   Based on your statement that there was CW cavalry activity in the area, I looked up badges and hat insignias.  Item 1 looks similar to the hat insignia picture I found.  That's just a guess though -- I'm by know means very knowledgable on this.  Item 4 looks like it has some letters on it.

The one at the bottom looks like some sort of weight for a fishing line. The lead headed nails were very common several years back for nailing on tin roofing. I still have some of those lieing around in the junk box. Grin

Thanks to all of have posted so far. If we can come up with some more details about the shield then they will all be identified with certainty.
Appreciate it.

Rav is spot on about the nails. They are old roofing nails used with iron i have seen literally 1000's of them they were very commonly used at the begining of last century.
