yep that's why a look at the bottom to see if it has a 7 or 9 digit nsn on it would be helpfull  that would give me  some sort of date period, and if all it is , is a PN# then that would more than likely be ww1 or 2

It says MB.6 or M8.6. on the side close to the bottom that's all the numbers on the can.
I didn't find it myself and for all i know it could be found on a European battlefield (great help) somewhere.
