looks like a peg to hang a coat or hat on.   The threads would probably screw into a plate attached to the wall in a hall or "cloak room"

Yes, obviously something to be screwed into wood (the threads are too course for metal). Perhaps a coat hanger or a door stop, although I have not seen this type of door stop in europe yet. I think BA was correct. Coloma Gold

i keep looking at this and it's reminding me of something.
but the old brain wont let it out.
i've seen/had something like this, it screwed into a larger metal part
i want to say it was part of some sort of stand but i'll be damned if i can
remember what or where it was

was going to say to small for a coat hook, especially if that`s a 1 pence, 2pence still small.
i was going to suggest something of a weaving loom.
