I think it dates from around 1850 - 1920?
====================================================================
Christian - - I believe you are right on the dates. But I continue to stick with it being a Knights Templar
insignia. Look up Pennsylvania Knights Templar magazine, there are still some Commandries from our
southern states selling lapel pins with this insignia. As I've said, it was used on their aprons into the 20th
century. It's a KT ring honoring 25 years of membership.

I agree, looks like a skull and bones society ring.    Wink  If only it could talk.

Some one here stated we freemasons don't have a member number. Look at your dues card. We were all given a number. While I can't verify the rings exact origin. I think a 25 year token to a freemason from a lodge with the initials TS make the most sence to me.

Well I think everyone is making some interesting guesses.  But I think in the end you will find that this ring was made by an jewelry maker by the name of Thomas Sabo, a german acessories designer.  Since he has been making jewelry for 25 years, I supect it's a 25 year anniversary ring he made.  If you do research on Thomas Sabo, he uses the skull motif alot in his jewelry.  Although I have not seen a picture of this ring specifically, you can tell it's a higher quality ring.  The initials inside are most like who gave the gift or who received it.  I'd say if it's a real Thomas Sabo skull ring, you're looking at about a $100 to $400 ring.

Ok this is interesting, first posted in 2009 and the rings been owned for about 8 years so round that down to 2000, go back 25 years and you come to 1975. What happened around 1975?

The ring is made in the USA I am sure of that from the style, the skull and crossed bones and shield is 'inspired' by modern representations of the logo of the 17/21 lancers, it is not a copy of the original design but one I have seen before. Black onyx is a common material used in men's rings and the font type is common on US sporting rings from the mid 70' to mid 90's. It is not a Masonic ring as it looks very unlike any (including modern) Masonic jewellery.

I am tempted to say a sports ring but how many sporting organisations have lasted 25 years and would use a skull as a motif? I was thinking of Triumph Sports (motorcycle) but the time line is wrong and the ring is not a 'hardcore' biker design. I very much doubt that the ring is older than the mid 1980's, as for it being a Thomas Sabo ring (?) it is not his design style, sorry.

The style/design of the ring is the secret to finding out who made it and why, I think it is a sports ring of some sort,

It may be a 25 year ring of the York right Skull and Bones Order all so know as the Knight Templar order. The only thing is I can not see the lettering below the skull very well?  I am a member of this order, if I am right you will find a number listed in the phone book under York right or try the internet, there is in all likely hood a reward for the lost ring. Best of luck Charles  Rider
