Chris, I have no idea what it is. The Shield with the lion and waves underneath should be a good clue as this resembles a national symbol. Where did you find it?

I'm really reaching here, but based on the date and the way I translate the Latin phrases on the front and back, it may have something to do with the Bodleian Library which was opened to scholars at Oxford in 1602.  The inscriptions on both sides would be appropriate for a law library as would the use of Latin.   But I have not been able to tie either the Lion Rampant in Waves or the Hunter with Horn, Hounds, Lance, and Fowl to the Bodleian....but then I'm only starting.

Hi Chris, I'm sorry that I can not help you to determine this coin but obviously it is very well preserved British copper coin from the early 17th century. A pretty nice find I would say! Congratulations!

Best wishes,

Christian
