Go Up Go Down

While detecting for coins around a very large oak tree my daughter spotted this sticking out of the ground.  I promptly dug it out and detected the area around it.  I found ,about a foot away, an object that looks like an old button.  This looks like a small pitcher but has what feels like lead in it and is very heavy for its size.  The notch on top doesn't look like damage (to me anyway) but an intentional bend.  I have asked around and the only answer that I got from one person out of several that I asked is that it may be a finial for the top of a lamp.  I didn't put much weight in this explanation as I couldn't come to a conclusion as to why if it was a finial- Why would it be weighted?

If anyone has any insight please share your knowledge and let me know what to tell my daughter she found.

Don't let your imagination run away. Brass is heavy, too.

Since it's not threaded, it's not likely that it goes to a lamp. It looks like a press-on axle cover for a small wheeled toy.

This being your first post here, I'll also advise you to include a size reference with a photo in the future. Your pictures are superb, by the way, but a quarter or even a ruler would be handy to help with the identification of your find.

Not knowing what size it is, I was thinking Spittoon or Urn.

LOL!  Sorry without bringing up the photo, that is what I was thinking.

How about a decorative end to a Curtain Rod.

homefire beat me to it.   Definitely looks like the end of an old curtain rod to me.

If we knew what the hole diameter was it would be easier to identify.
Tend to agree with the others who mention curtain rod end if larger a four poster bed.
