Hm, very hard to determine, really.  You could try and exact an verification by imagination.  But to me, it is very hard to say due to its condition.  It could just be a rusted piece of metal that just coincidentally looks like a cross.  If you can find any symbols or writing, then you could try and verify it.

That is just a thought, anyone else be free to guess!!

Metal_Inspector, I agree with you that I don't think this think is likely to get id'd.  But I don't think it is just a rusted piece of metal that just coincidentally looks like a cross.   The cross shaped holes in it, including the ones that give it the over-all cross shape are too regular and too uniformly spaced to be "a happy accident".

Thanks for the replies,
It looks like a cross and very well could be but it looks like it could have been a square piece at once and
the pieces around it broke off, if you look at the x's they seem to be in line in a square form, maybe ?  Undecided
Anyway I did find my first wheat penny today and I found an old Master lock with the key still in it and it's spare just to the right
of it 6 inches in the ground in my friends backyard.  Detecting
Something different every time.

Ah, I guess I didn't look it over carefully. Grin I see the cross shapes inside the main object now.  It certainly looks more geometric than organically shaped.

The main overview is that it is a cross.  Unless you can find any tiny writing on it, that is what we will tag it as!!

It's just a piece of a perforated metal sheet. If you look carefull the patern on the inside also is visible on the edges... Wise

The bootom side is obviously a corner of the sheet. Where I live this type of plate is used to cover small drainpits and ventilation holes of cellars etc...
