I found this in my yard about 12 inches deep. What is it? It is solid but not extremely dense.
It was covered in mud. I washed it a little and it is silver. Any ideas?

It is thicker than most aluminum I have run across. I was hoping it was a meteorite.  Angry

Camp Fire Nugget.    People burn cans and trash in fires and they blurk into nuggets like that.

If you have agasstove you can put it in the flame for a few minutes, just the edge, if it's lead it'll melt, as it has a silver petia when cleaned. And if not lead after a while of exposure to the flame, the flame will change color and you can match it to the element by color of the flame. I've done this for unidentified metals, works rather well. Found chunk of gold bowl, never found the rest. was mostly made of copper by flame test, the gold color was brass, as it is composed of various metals, mostly copper. Found lead too, however, any cast metal has air pockets in it and will literally explode a heated chunk off. found a chunk of palladium here in Illinois, strange find, in ore form, and rather unique.

Hey Libby,
Purchased acid test kit be posting some unique finds that I would have just let gather dust on a shelf if I didn't test 'em. Platinum ore, over 5 ounces. Problem is it most likely contains other precious metals and other elements, has to go through refining process. And a find straight out of Indiana Jones! Be posting my finds tonight right now talking to refiners....
