Hi LibbyC. Have you tryed a magnet to it yet? or did somebody already mention that? Looks like melted alum. or lead to me also?

I agree with the "melted aluminum" theory, especially if it is light for it's size.   Most of the melted lead I have found is darker except where a surface is freshly cut and lead is much heavier than the same size piece of aluminum.

If you search the web for "specific gravity" you will find some websites that have methods to get an approximate specific gravity for your object.   Then you can check the tables to find the most likely candidate.
